How I’m Simplifying My Makeup Routine

I’ve always loved makeup! I also love spending time getting ready, playing with different products, and trying out new looks. But now that I’m 36 weeks pregnant, I’m realizing the days of having lots of time to get gussied up and mess with my face are probably going to be very few and far between. So I’ve been working on simplifying my look in preparation for being a mom. I’ve narrowed down my routine to 9 steps that take less than 10 minutes! The picture above was taken after I had gone through this routine and shows some of the products I like to use. There was also no filter applied to this image and it was taken 3 hours after I had gotten ready using the steps outlined below.

MAKEUP PREP: 1 minute

-Once I wake up, I quickly wash my face with cold water. It helps me wake up!

-I grab a light moisturizer and gently slather it all over my face.

-My makeup routine begins with applying liquid foundation with a foundation brush.

-Skipping any bronzer, I sweep a one-color blush over apples of my cheeks.

-Hiding any red spots is a key and stick concealer works best for this. I prefer to use Revlon Photoready concealer.

-My eye shadow application is two steps. I swipe a neutral color on my lids and into my crease and then use a dark color on the outside corners. No eyeliner needed!

-I apply a few coats of black mascara. Mary Kay has been my go-to for years.

-I finish up with a long-lasting lip gloss. Laura Mercier Lip Glace has just the right amount of color and shine but is also moisturizing.

As you can see in the featured image, I completed my look by putting my messy hair in a side ponytail, adding some hairspray, throwing on a comfortable dress and then I was done for the day! The whole process took about 20 minutes.

Whether you are a mom or just a busy gal, I’d love to hear what some of you do in order to get ready quickly! Let me know your tricks or tips in the comments 🙂

  1. My makeup routine is very basic and I only really make an effort when I go out but even then it’s under 15min. I think your make up looks lovely. Good luck with the arrival of your little one!

    1. Thanks! I’m sure when I have the time to get ready, I will take it. But I’m guessing I just won’t have that very often 😉

  2. I have cut back and went to a more simple make-up routine now that I am older. Fits my life style better but still makes me feel good about myself.

  3. I know this is about your make up routine, but I love the side pony on you — it looks so adorable and pulled together! I really need to check out that Laura Mercier lip stain. I love her lipsticks, but a longer lasting version would be welcome!

  4. As one half of a travel blogging duo, there are times for makeup and times for… a lot less makeup. I’ve been working on things I can knock off the morning list, little by little. Thanks for sharing your simplified routine!
