Whenever fall rolls around, I find it helpful to think about the one clothing item my wardrobe could potentially be missing. Usually “updated jeans” is the answer, and while I definitely could use a new pair this season, I still have to say that the one thing I’d recommend I really want to pick up this season is the oversized cardigan. Part cardigan, part jacket, part…robe? the oversized cardi is the perfect piece to throw on when the weather starts to cool (like it did today in Indiana – 40 degrees, anyone??) I often use these cardigans as a jacket replacement and with the right design elements, they can really make a statement. Throw on a cute scarf, and you’ll stay cozy and warm while looking adorable and keeping on trend. The oversized cardigan is also much better for traveling and easier to pack than a heavy coat – check out the two that I packed when I visited New York and Paris in the pictures below.
I love this red cardi that kept me nice and warm while walking around the City of Lights.
The deep red color added a bit of interest to an otherwise all-black outfit.
This heavy cardigan can be worn open (for slightly warmer days) or buttoned up to keep cozy.
The crochet pattern, leather trim, and cowl neck details take this sweater beyond basic.
